Whether for navigation or tracking a ride, you can't go too far wrong than using your smartphone - but try mounting it to a set of handlebars and the result can be cumbersome, ill-fitting and ugly. Enter Loop Mount.
Via a successful Kickstarter project, a team of product design wizards have come up with a wonderfully smart, retractable and dare we say it good-looking solution. Low profile and discrete the mount requires no extra tools when adding (and removing a phone) and when not in use it retreats into an even smaller form - ideal if your bars are already cluttered with lights a bell and such like.
The cunning team at Loop have made sure that their mount is capable of cradling most smartphones. The quoted maximum width is 80mm or 3.15" - that's enough for an iPhone SE, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S10, Samsung Galaxy 10 Plus, Google Pixel XL or Huawei P40 Pro + amongst others. That's device compatibility, what about Loop's other connection point, the handlebars?
Loop Mount fits most traditional handlebar diameters - that's sizes from 22.2mm up to 31.8mm in numerical terms. That covers some of the first mountain bike bars right up to modern oversized road types. Loop is fastened to the bars with an allen key and included is a set of three shims (small, medium and large) to ensure a snug, secure fit. You can be confident that the Loop team have done their homework on this too. Indeed, they've put the mount through over 200 hours of ride testing to make sure it holds your smartphone stable.
For now, the Loop Mount can only be used in landscape mode on handlebars. Although it can be used in portrait mode when fitted to a bicycle stem with a diameter between 22.2mm and 31.8mm. The provided shims also smooth out any non-spherical forms to provide a rock-steady fit.
