Five years ago, Brompton and Barbour first locked eyes over a main frame and a tartan print. A special edition bike, bag run and clothing line - in limited numbers - was rolled out and snapped up - fast. No surprise really. If there is a limited edition collaboration that makes sense, it would be these two - two bastions of Britishness.

Field and Forest Hill - the Brompton-Barbour relationship makes plenty of sense.

In 2022, Barbour and Brompton are back with "a collaboration celebrating British style and the joy of the journey." A special edition bike, a trio of bags, a brace of jackets and three casual T-shirts form the collection.

Barbour x Brompton Special Edition Folding Bike

Like other recent limited edition runs (the Team GB one springs to mind) a bike is the centrepiece. This bike is a C Line Explore - the classic folding Brompton with six gears to tackle the terrain in town and country. Our rundown of Brompton bike nomenclature gives a more detailed explanation of the bike's specifications.

That frame, those tyres. Chefs kiss.

Barbour's countryside roots run deep, so Brompton has spec'd the bike for adventure. Whether that's a rainy dally down a minor road to the village shop or a sweltering commute across town to the studio.

Features of note include an all-weather Brooks Cambium C17 saddle. Schwalbe Almotion tyres match the colour of the frame and perform on a variety of surfaces. A pair of Barbour x Brompton bags, the Wax Holdall (large) and Zip Pouch (small) are included with every bike.

The unmistakable Barbour tartan.

What else? Well, there's the 'Amble Sands' frame colour. A powder coat unique to the bike with a hue chosen to echo the Northumberland Beach near Barbour's home in the North East of England. Brake levers, clips and a custom-made Lezyne pump shine in silver and a polished brass bell, designed for the Brompton handlebar, rings with a crisp, joyful tone. Special serial plates and decals also adorn the bike.

Barbour x Brompton Bags

The front carrier block is another demonstration of Brompton's engineering prowess. A fixed mounting point for bags keeps gear in sight on a part of the bike that tends to be underutilised. Two bags in the Barbour x Brompton collection fit on the front carrier block - the Wax Holdall and the City Bag.

There's no denying the wax holdall looks the part off the bike too.

The Barbour x Brompton Wax Holdall exudes Britishness. It is made by Barbour using its iconic waxed cotton fabric that keeps out the rain. The large 24L capacity offers enough room for a weekend getaway. Because the fabric is natural, it will age gracefully over time. Every Barbour x Brompton bike is sold with a Wax Holdall. It's also available to purchase separately.

Using the same waxed fabric, the smaller (it's half the capacity of the Wax Holdall) Barbour x Brompton City Bag is for daily duties. A padded laptop section, shoulder strap and grab handle are all features that you'll put to good use during a working day. The City bag is available individually.

The brass hardware is typical of Barbour's design

The third and final bag is a limited edition version of Brompton's 1-litre Zip pouch. It features the iconic Barbour tartan. A favourite of ours, the bag can be mounted to the handlebar, the saddle or with the accompanying strap, it can be quickly slung over a shoulder. The Barbour x Brompton Zip Pouch accompanies every special edition bike. It is also available to be purchased separately.

Cinched to the saddle, the zip pouch is the ideal place to store smaller items that you never ride without.

The Barbour x Brompton collection is for sale in limited numbers. Indeed, by the time you read this, it may have already sold out! Our entire Brompton catalog is a click away, or you can find Brompton bikes in every Velorution store.
